When Tiles Break World Records

December 12, 2022

Tiles have been used to create large scale decorations since Ancient Rome, with some of the most beautiful and enduring works of art in history being in the form of mosaics and mosaic effect tiles.

This tradition has long continued for the same reason that we have tiles in our kitchens and bathrooms; tiling endures in a way many other wall and floor coverings do not.

There are a lot of different records related to tiles that rely on its versatility, so here are some tile-based world records.

World’s Largest Man-Made Single Tile

Many tile-based records involve large scale designs or sculptures, but when it comes to the largest individual tile, the world record goes to the Danube Group based in the United Arab Emirates. Measuring 3.2 metres by 1.6 metres, the tile towered over customers in showrooms.

World’s Largest Tile Mural

The largest tile design is built around an entire building in Taiwan and measures over 9000 square metres. The concept behind creating a tile mural is to depict south Taiwanese culture and create a landmark in Hualian.

It depicts the leaders of the local Amay clan, Sera and Nakaw and Taiwan Innovation Development corporation finished its construction in January 2019.

World’s Largest Tile Structure

The largest tile sculpture was made in April 2013, to celebrate the PSB Group trade fair in Kielce, Poland.

The sculpture was made by Selena SA, measured 3.16 metres by 3.54 metres and shows the versatility and scalability of ceramic tiles.
