Tiles can give your kitchen a whole new look. There are so many different styles out there that you can give an entirely new feel to the place just by changing the colour or design. With so much choice, deciding on the right tile can be difficult but there is bound to be something out there that you love.
Kitchen tiles shouldn’t just look great, they need to be functional too. This means you should consider their suitability before tiling your kitchen. Floor tiles should be easy to clean in the case of spillages but also non-slip and safe to walk on.
Wall tiles should also be easily cleaned and choosing something that doesn’t hold onto grease from splashes is important. Tiles with deep grooves and texture may not be the best choice for areas that dirty easily, such as a stove backsplash or countertop.
Kitchen tiles should be resilient and strong. This is especially important if you are using them on your countertops as they will see a lot of wear and tear over the years.
Choosing a material that scratches and chips easily, such as ceramic, may not be the best choice as your countertop may deteriorate quickly and the damaged surface could hold onto bacteria, making the kitchen counters unsafe for food preparation.
Floor tiles should also be made from a strong and resilient material to ensure they do not break. Accidents happen in the kitchen and you don’t want to find your floor tiles breaking if you accidentally drop heavy pots, pans or appliances.
This doesn’t mean the tiles you use can’t be stylish and look good though. Using suitable tiles for the walls and counters means you can choose decorative, beautiful tiles such as patterned tiles of mosaic effect tiles to create a statement wall or to cover the areas underneath cupboards.
