Before you get stuck into a home renovation project, you could be forgiven for thinking that all tiles are created equal. Of course this is far from true. In fact, there are many more types of tiles than you might imagine, and these all have their uses in different areas of the home.
Real Simple recently offered some advice on when to use which types of tiles, which could help you if you’re planning to make some changes around your abode.
Among the most common types of tile are ceramic and porcelain, the news provider explained. The former is durable, comes in a range of shapes and styles and tends to be at an affordable price point, which makes it attractive to anyone redecorating on a budget.
Porcelain tiles are appealing because they “emulate natural stone, brick or wood - and without any of the maintenance”, Tony Castellano, senior merchant for The Home Depot, told the news provider.
He added that porcelain tiles are available in “a variety of designs, colours and styles to allow for versatility when designing a space”. One thing to remember if you’re shopping for porcelain tiles in Kent is that they’re a little trickier to lay than their ceramic counterparts, so you may want to call in professional assistance.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for a kitchen revamp, you might want to keep things simple, like TV host and cookbook author Ted Allen. He explained that he likes to keep his kitchen design very basic, with plain white tiles and stainless steel surfaces.
This means he has an efficient space for cooking in, but also somewhere that he’s happy to entertain guests, he told House Beautiful recently.
