Homeowners who want to update their houses have been advised by property expert Sarah Beeny to remain realistic about their expectations.

The TV presenter shared her tips with viewers of her new show Little House, Big Plans, which launched on Channel 4 on Thursday (June 9th).

Ahead of the first episode, shetold The Express one of the biggest pitfalls of a renovation project is “probably being unrealistic about how much it will cost and how long it’ll take”.

Beeny said most people who continue living in the property while undertaking major work can see their project lasting months or even years.

“You know you’re going to be there for a long time and so it’s easy to get carried away. A project at home is also hard to complete and so I always think it’s a good idea to set yourself a deadline,” thepresenter, who has also fronted Sarah Beeny’s New Life In The Country, Sarah Beeny’s Renovate, Don’t Relocate, UK’s Best Place To Live, Sarah Beeny’s Streets Ahead and Property Ladder to name a few, stated.

In her current programme, she takes couples who want to expand small spaces in their house into larger areas on a renovation journey.

During the first episode, one pair wanted to double the size of their two-bedroom home in Wiltshire. Architect Damion Burrows also worked with a couple who wanted to build a sustainable home in Bristol.

When ‘being realistic’ with your renovation project, why not choosekitchen tiles that can be used for both the wall and floor to save time?
