Classic Kitchen Design ‘Always On Trend’

When you’re thinking of revamping any part of your home, it can be easy to get caught up in the latest home decor trends.

From different colours to new materials, it’s not hard to get carried away with the likes of Instagram and Pinterest to help you as you find inspiration for your perfect bathroom, kitchen or bedroom.

Where kitchens are concerned there’s a lot to be said for choosing a classic look though. Country Life recently stated that a classic kitchen will “always trump the latest trends” and explained why some elements of kitchen design are so timeless.

It’s worth bearing this in mind when you’re looking for kitchen tiles in London. Writing for the publication, Amelia Thorpe explained why she always comes back to classic when it comes to kitchens.

She stated: “It’s hard to beat the reassuring look and feel of classic framed cabinetry that has its roots in the traditionally made ‘below stairs’ kitchens of grand country houses or the reassuring honesty of Shaker-style joinery.”

Another reason that this style is so enduringly popular is that it “embraces wear and tear”, and this can even enhance the overall appeal of the finished look.

Ms Thorpe said that when it comes to kitchen cabinetry and furniture, this should be crafted to fit in with any architectural elements, such as windows, sloping ceilings and chimney breasts.

She also recommends painting cabinets to create a “softer, less perfect look than polished lacquers”.

And, of course, if you have a large enough space then an island or kitchen prep table is a must to give the room a truly homely feel.

You can inject some personality to your kitchen through the accessories and artwork you display, as well as through the tiles that you choose. In fact, kitchen designer Jason Vanderhovel recently told Kitchen & Bath Design News that tiles are growing in popularity because of the variety available.

With so many different finishes, colours and sizes to choose from, home owners are able to customise their kitchens to allow their personality to shine through.

However, one thing you shouldn’t neglect when designing your kitchen is its functionality. An article for the Daily Telegraph in Australia recently stressed the importance of putting functionality before design when it comes to kitchens.

Planning the layout of a new kitchen carefully is essential to make sure that you have everything you need within easy reach at any time when you’re cooking or preparing food. That means thinking carefully about the space you have and how best to use it.

Of course, a functional kitchen can still be a beautiful one, and once you’ve sorted out the practical elements you can focus on adding those design touches that bring it to life and make it your own.

Dominique McAdam, owner at Provincial Kitchens Home, told the news provider that one element she likes to include in kitchens where possible is open shelving. “It looks pretty and it’s part of the art of the kitchen but it’s a functional way to just grab things as you’re using them,” she asserted.
